Faq About My Blog

What is the story behind your blog title?

I seem to be surrounded by the "perfect" moms, the ones who make organic meals from scratch and always know the whereabouts of all their offspring. They look down their long, pointy noses at the rest of us just because we happen to have a half naked toddler running loose in the front yard, or we accidentally flash the mailman or heaven forbid, we buy our bake sale cookies at the grocery store. I started my blog for the other moms, the ones who do the best we can every single day and count down the hours until we can crack open that bottle of wine without feeling like a total lush. Hey, it's always 5 o'clock somewhere right?

How much time do you spend blogging each day?

It varies from day to day. I do the majority of my blogging at night after my kids go to bed and Matt falls asleep on the couch. This is where the unrelenting insomnia actually comes in handy. The hours between 10pm and 2am are usually my most productive ones. I will say that getting a new blog up and running smoothly requires a lot of work, even more late nights, and a fair amount of sacrifice. Once I found my rhythm and settled into a regular routine I was able to be more productive with my time.

Do you have any boundaries established for what you write about?

I try to avoid telling stories that aren't mine to share. I also try not to talk about personal problems that have the potential to hurt people in my life. I choose not to write about a lot of things that might cause friction within my family.

Do you have a comment policy?

I follow the basic rule of Be Nice or Get Deleted. I take no offense to someone disagreeing with me or expressing a difference of opinion as long as it is done respectfully. I will not tolerate name-calling or comments that attack myself or other readers. I have never had to delete a comment here but I would not hesitate to do so if I felt someone was crossing the line.

Does your blog have a niche?

I'm kind of a niche-less wonder. I consider myself to be a Parenting & Lifestyle blog. I write about my sometimes-successful attempts at domestication, motherhood, marriage, and life in general.

Do you share pretty much everything on your blog?

Nope. There are large parts of who I am and what I've experienced in my life that are not a part of this blog.

Why did you shut down your previous blog?

It was time to move on to a new adventure. My previous blog was a foster care/adoption specific blog and because of that I was not able to post pictures of myself or Matt. There was no way to morph it into the kind of blog that I wanted to write so I had no choice but to start over. And here I am.

Why do you call yourself Semi-Domesticated?

I'm never going to be one of those moms who has it all together all the time. My kids might be eating waffles for dinner a couple of nights a week. The clean laundry might not ever make it out of the basket. My house will never be drop-in company ready. My kids buy their lunches at school. I might not be the next June Cleaver but I am a happy mama who finds joy among the chaos- that’s my superpower. Welcome to my Semi-Domesticated Life.
